From Tachi (upright) position, the opponent sees Gedan no Kamae, the lowered Katana, as a weak and easily defeated position. This is illusion. Upon stepping in with the Kiri (cut) or Kissaki (point) thrust, the opponent will find his/her sword lifted up out of the way, followed by an under-thrusting pene-tration. This Kamae, whether from the Tatehiza position (shown in a previous picture) or in standing posture is actually very powerful.
