During his high school years, he also studied Isshin-Ryu and Shotokai Karate. He was promoted to Shodan in 1959. During his four-year tour in the United States Marine Corps, he trained in the Shorin-Ryu style under Master San D. Pearson.  On June 11, 1972 Grand Master Hohan Soken appointed  Premru as the Chairman and President of the newly formed Okinawan Karate Federation.
