Sensei Premru began his formal karate training in 1956 with Sensei Larry Williams, a Goju-Ryu stylist. During his high school years, he also studied Isshin-Ryu and Shotokai Karate. He was promoted to Shodan in 1959. During his four-year tour in the United States Marine Corps, he trained in the Shorin-Ryu style under Master San D. Pearson. On June 11, 1972 Grand Master Hohan Soken appointed Premru as the Chairman and President of the newly formed Okinawan Karate Federation. Prior to his death in the fall of 1982, Grand Master Hohan Soken promoted Master Premru to the rank of 10th Degree Black Belt in order to carry on the traditions of the Okinawan Karate Federation.
