Daniel Pai's grandfather, Po Fong Pai, immigrated to Hawaii from China during the early 1900's. Po Fong was treated poorly by many Hawaiians even though he was a respected Sifu (teacher) of Kung Fu in China.  At the age of twelve, Daniel was sent to the Northern Okinawan Monastery for five years, during which he mastered a Chinese Kempo style. Daniel returned to Hawaii and became the pre-eminent fighter of the islands. Sifu Fong taught Daniel the Pai family Kung Fu style, White Dragon Fist. Professor Daniel Pai left Hawaii and became a famous fighter and teacher on the mainland United States.  Sensei Gagnon studied with Sifu Daniel Pai in the 70's in Hartford, Connecticut, attaining the final rank before Red Sash (Master Level) in Pai Lum.
